Cool features of Chrome – The new browser from Google

Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Opera and now Chrome. With so many choices for the user, the browser market is competitive more than ever. Chrome is from none other than the search giant Google which means its no nonsense. After using it for about a week now, I think there are some really simple and cool features.

More real estate

We are all hungry for space. We will never be satisfied. Google added the tabs in the title bar itself and gave us one extra line to read and write on the screen. It made the status bar appear only when required and gave us another extra line. Firefox and IE show the same information on both the title bar of the window and on the tabs. We can hide the status bar in Firefox and IE but then we will not know what’s up with page that is loading or where the link is going to take us when you hover on it. With Chorme the status bar will appear only if its required.

The new tab page

With Firefox and IE you can load a default page when the browser starts. You can save all your tabs and open it again but you cannot see your most visited pages or recently opened sites before actually loading  them.  Chrome’s start page is really simple and cool. You can at a glance see where you stopped working last night. Searching history is now even simpler.

Incognito Browsing

This is basically browsing in stleath mode. Webpages that you open and files downloaded while you are incognito won’t be logged in your browsing and download histories; all new cookies are deleted after you close the incognito window. You can browse normally and in incognito mode at the same time by using separate windows. Google’s reason on why we need incognito browsing is to to plan surprises like gifts or birthdays. But we all when would incognito browsing be really used and what audience is being targetted.

With Chrome still in beta it definitely looks promising. Its going it give some tough comeptition to other major players and no doubt that its going to eat some of IE’s and Firefox’s share.
